Playa Avellanas

Designed by Mike Young, the 18-hole championship golf course is considered to be one of the best in Central America. The resort boasts 3 miles of coastline encompassing 6 white sand beaches from Playa Langosta in the north to Playa Avellanas in the south; these beaches offer a variety of activity options including snorkeling, sports fishing, kayaking, horse riding and surfing. Although not conducive for swimming, the strong, crystal-blue waves at Playa Avellanas are nevertheless a big draw for surfers visiting from Playa Tamarindo, 13 km away, and Playa Langosta, 5 km to the north. With around eight different surf breaks, right and left, and swells that can reach up to 18 feet high, Playa Avellanas is truly a magnet for surfers in search of the perfect tubes. Budget cabinas and small hotels can be found on Playa Avellanas outside Hacienda Pinilla.
