Majority of inbound flights arrive at the Juan Santamaría International Airport (SJO) in the outskirt of Alajuela, about 20 minutes’ drive from the capital city of San José. Vacationers who are planning to head straight for the beaches of Guanacaste will be better off flying directly to the Daniel Oduber International Airport (LIR) in Liberia, the capital of Guanacaste province, as most of the beaches along the Pacific coast are within an hour’s drive from this airport. Also, during the high season from December through April, many economical charter carriers land at Daniel Oduber International Airport, so ask your travel agent for options on charter flights. On the other hand, flying into San Jose means you can easily catch a domestic connection from the domestic terminal which is adjacent to the Juan Santamaria International Airport. Sansa Regional offers scheduled flights to fifteen destinations from here. In addition, from the Tobias Bolaños terminal in Pavas, about 20 minutes from the international airport, Nature Air flies to thirteen internal destinations.
